Who’s Behind This Newsletter?
I’m Emma Frisch, a self-taught chef, cookbook author, and mama living in the bountiful Finger Lakes Region of Upstate, NY.
I’m first-generation American raised by an Italian-British mamma and Ashkenazi Jewish-British papa, who inspired me to cook seasonal food from scratch, make classic Italian dishes like polpettine, and develop a unique perspective on Jewish foods (like these Purim pastries).
Food has always been my way of connecting with people, across the table and across cultures, and writing recipes has been a central way to share stories that inspire me.
Over the years, I’ve worked across the food industry in the U.S. and abroad, from farming and food distribution to catering, teaching, and recipe development. I was a top finalist on Food Network Star (Season 10), co-founded and led the culinary vision for two hotels (Firelight Camps in Ithaca / La Buena Onda in Nicaragua), and authored two cookbooks. My work has been featured in The New York Times, Oprah, Martha Stewart, Epicurious, and Forbes.
Now, as a mom of two, I’ve honed a seasonal cooking style that’s simple, nourishing, kid-friendly, and delicious — with just enough room for chicken nuggets and chaos.
And I want to help you gain confidence while taking the guesswork out of your daily dinner struggle.
However you choose to connect with me, I’m delighted your here!
♡ Emma (and twinnie, Dimity)
