Hello my dear friends,
Last night, buried in snow, the thermometer read -4 degrees Fahrenheit.
The dark sky was clear, stars blazing bright.
As the winter nights stretch long and the solstice invites us to dream, I’ve been reflecting on what’s ahead for this community and my broader mission in 2025.
Here’s a quick look at what’s to come:
1. A Special Project With My Twin Sis
My twin sister, Dimity, and I have been holding a vision for five years, and we’re getting ready to finally launch it (hint: it’s about dinner!). We’re aiming to go live around our birthday, January 31st, but as Sally Ekus wisely says, we want it “right, not rushed.” Stay tuned—you’ll be the first to know when we’re ready to share!
2. A Kids Cooking Show
Over the past 18 months, I’ve been quietly developing a cooking show co-hosted by my daughter, Cora. It’s an educational, laugh-out-loud experience designed for families to co-watch. We have an incredible team ready to produce this show, and my dream is to work with PBS Kids to make it free and widely accessible. I’m also exploring independent PBS stations, or even launching a YouTube channel (which I’ll admit, feels daunting).
I believe that when kids learn where their food comes from and how to cook, they–and we–can change the world.
There is a huge need for culinary and nutritional education for kids, and I hope to fill the gap with an inspiring, informative, beautiful, and entertaining program that parents will be happy to let their kids watch–especially if it means their kids will take on more responsibility in the kitchen (wink wink).
I can’t say for sure when–or if–this project will take flight, but I can assure you I’ll be working towards it daily.
If this project sparks your interest or you have ideas, connections, or support to offer, please reply to this email—I’d love to hear from you!
3. Better Support to Make Cooking FUN and DOABLE—even on your busiest days
In 2025, I want to offer more short, engaging videos and resources with tools, tips, and strategies to help you:
Create personalized meal plans that work year-round
Batch cook with ease
Tackle picky eaters and diverse dietary needs
Build efficient shopping lists
Shop smartly and demystify ingredient labels
Organize your kitchen for low-stress cooking
Build meaningful family rituals around food
I’ll continue to share my favorite, easy, seasonal recipes, and of course food writing when the muse strikes.
For those craving a deeper dive, I’ll also offer 1:1 consultations to tailor recipes to your family’s needs, make meals allergy-friendly, streamline your process, and address any other needs you have. Reply directly to this email or leave a comment for more information:
A Note on Meal Plans
I’ll be pausing the meal plans for now, but will continue to share recipes and valuable content for all paid subscribers. I’m incredibly grateful for your support, and hope you’ll stick along for the ride.
You will continue to have access to all the meal plans, jam-packed with foolproof recipes and tips!
And it’s not too late to access the December Meal Plan, with recipes to carry you into 2025.
I’ll be taking a short holiday break to enjoy time with family, including relatives from Jamaica, England, and Kenya. From Jamaican Ackee and Saltfish to Aunt Luwei’s Chinese dumplings, I can’t wait to share highlights of our wildly international reunion when I return on January 9th!
Wishing you a beautiful, restful holiday season.
Thank you for being part of this community—I’m so grateful for you all.
With love,
♡ Emma
