Hello dear friends,
It’s easy to feel divided in times like these, but I believe there is so much more that connects us than separates us.
Our shared humanity is not defined by the president we voted for, but by universal experiences, like feeding ourselves and our families.
Food can be a beautiful reminder that we have common ground.
With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching, I’ve been reflecting on how food has the power to connect us to:
local and native food in our regions
food heroes in our communities such as farmers, farmworkers, bakers, grocery store clerks—and many others who do labor in the food system
nature, and the many wild gifts it offers
ancestors, as we recreate and share their dishes
Indigenous people where we live, and their diverse cultures
…and above all, each other, as many of us gather to share meals.
Let’s start with the November Meal Plan.
The November Meal Plan is perfect for your Thanksgiving meal or any autumnal weeknight dinner.

I feature some of my simplest, most beloved recipes: skillet cornbread, an effortless cranberry sauce, vibrant veggie sides, and gelato you can make without an ice cream maker.
The dishes are designed to spark connection and gratitude around your table, while being quick enough to keep things low-stress!
When we celebrate Thanksgiving, may we acknowledge the legacy of lands to which we’re connected, Indigenous/native people, and the complex history of the holiday.
This month’s meal plan includes prompts from Seasonal Family Almanac to help foster meaningful family conversations about these many dimensions.
In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing additional resources for a low-stress Thanksgiving that prioritizes rest, and my favorite ways to show gratitude.
In the meantime, I’m thinking about how we can model a more compassionate and caring world to our children, one in which we can work together to build more beautiful possibilities for all.
Maybe that starts with inviting your neighbors — yes, even those with different yard signs — over for a meal.
I wish you all peace in your hearts and an easy runway to dinner.
With cranberry-stained teeth,
♡ Emma
